Ojibwa Indian School (OIS) serves kindergarten through eighth-grade students in a positive and effective learning environment that prepares them for high school and beyond.

Every child possesses unique gifts, talents, and challenges. Our educational program is designed to meet the needs of every individual, ensuring that each student reaches their full potential through:

  • Academic instruction
  • Physical, social, and emotional support
  • Spiritual and cultural guidance

OIS supports the growth and development of all students who reside in the Turtle Mountain Chippewa Reservation. Through collaboration with students, parents, guardians, and community members, we provide a meaningful, dynamic, and culturally relevant educational experience that nurtures the overall well-being of every student.

Our team of educators promotes excellence in academics, community, and cultural education. We implement the highest educational standards, continuous professional development, and strong parent and community involvement.

As a reflection of the larger Chippewa community, OIS serves as an extension of our homes and families. Every member of our school community prioritizes the health and safety of others, and all students are expected to follow the Ojibwa Indian School "Behavior and Expectation Policy."

Our Beliefs

We believe that the Great Spirit placed us on Mother Earth to:

  • Be kind and respect one another and all living things.
  • Ensure Ojibwa Indian School reflects the past, present, and future of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa.
  • Recognize each student as a unique individual within the Turtle Mountain Community.
  • Provide educational opportunities in partnership with parents/guardians to develop students culturally, physically, emotionally, socially, and academically.

Our Community

OIS is committed to creating and maintaining a positive and effective learning environment by:

  • Understanding the special needs of our youth and recognizing the importance of every individual.
  • Helping each child reach their full potential in academic and human development skills.
  • Preparing students to become engaged citizens in both the community and broader society.
  • Supporting each child's intellectual, emotional, social, and physical development.
  • Valuing and affirming differences in cultural traditions.
  • Partnering with students, parents/guardians, and the community to provide a broad and meaningful educational experience.
  • Treating each child as unique, with their own values, assets, abilities, and cultural identity.

Misson and Vision Statement

Mission

Ojibwa Indian School provides an educational program that promotes the academic, spiritual, cultural, intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development of students residing on or near the Turtle Mountain Chippewa Reservation.

We achieve this through:

  • Effective discipline
  • Implementation of high educational standards
  • Continuous professional development
  • Strong parent/guardian and community involvement

Vision

"Excellence in academics, community, and cultural education—where every employee is a teacher, every parent is a partner, and every child is a champion."

Strategic Transformation of Education Plan (STEP)

Ojibwa Indian School has implemented the Strategic Transformation of Education Plan initiative – a digital learning portal with a blended learning approach. Our students can maximize this opportunity by accessing the digital learning portal with a 1:1 student-laptop usage ratio. This strategy utilizes the digital learning platform to enhance instruction through integrated applications and a robust learning strategy.

The Ojibwa Indian School team is dedicated to the growth and development of our students—tomorrow’s leaders. Through academic excellence, cultural preservation, and innovative learning strategies, we prepare students for a successful future.
